Conference Overview

What does the practice of creating space to feel seen, heard and known stir in each of us? What is required and how are we called to create this space for ourselves and others?

Development unfolds and evolves within the context of relationships. This concept is one of the foundational principles of DIR®, co-created by Drs Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder. Relationships fuel personal and collective growth, and, in our fast-paced society, relationships have the potential to provide safety, connection, and resilience. We also know that how we relate to others is deeply impacted by our perceptions, belief systems, and past experiences.

This conference examines the transformative power of relationships with ourselves and others, forefronting the need for examination of our biases, assumptions, individual differences, culture, and communication patterns. Through reflective practice and self-awareness, clinicians, practitioners, parents and caregivers can amplify their ability to create and maintain belonging:  the experience of being seen, heard, and known. This conference expands our understanding of relationships, providing tools, strategies, and foundational information that will empower you to deepen your relationships with cultural sensitivity and identity-affirming practices.

Course Objectives

As a result of this conference you will be able to:
  • Identify two to three key principles that influence how we relate to others.
  • Describe how a deeper understanding of “self” can enhance authentic connections and create a sense of belonging.
  • Name two practices that inform reflective practice to deepen our understanding of relationships.
